Applications of Silicones in Humanoid Robots

With properties such as resistance to high and low temperatures, anti-aging, and excellent flexibility, silicones are widely used in the field of humanoid robots. Their core application scenarios are concentrated in the following categories:
  • Lubrication for Joints and Moving Parts: For example, high-performance silicone lubricating oils can reduce the frictional resistance of robot joints (such as hip joints and knee joints), minimize component wear, and make joint movements more flexible and smooth. Meanwhile, they can adapt to temperature changes during robot operation, extending the service life of the joints.
  • Manufacture of Flexible Contact Components: Silicones are used to produce silicone parts such as robot skins and finger tips. These silicone parts are acid and alkali resistant, anti-aging, and can maintain good performance for approximately 10 years. Additionally, their surfaces are hard, wear-resistant, and glossy, which not only improves the safety when the robot comes into contact with the environment/human body but also ensures the long-term stability of appearance and performance.
  • Sealing and Protection: In parts such as the robot's internal circuits and sensor interfaces, silicone sealants can provide waterproof, dustproof, and anti-corrosion effects. They protect core components from external environmental impacts, ensuring the robot operates stably in complex scenarios (such as humid and mild acid-alkali environments).
